System Requirements
The information you need to get
CrystalMaker
up and running on your Macintosh.
COMPUTER SPECIFICATIONS
CrystalMaker-4 requires a MacOS-compatible
computer with PowerPC processor (e.g., PowerMacintosh,
iMac, G3, etc.), and running System 7.0, or later (including MacOS8).
Earlier versions of CrystalMaker will run on older 68K Macs (68020,
68030 and 68040-series processors). To use the CD-ROM Edition,
you will require a double-speed, or faster, CD-ROM drive.
A minimum of 6 MB of free RAM
must be allocated to CrystalMaker (for a 14-inch colour monitor
running in 8-bit colour). Larger monitors and greater colour depths
will require more RAM (e.g., we recommend 10-12 MB for a 21-inch
colour monitor running in thousands or millions of colours). The
more memory you allocate to CrystalMaker, the greater your options
when generating high-quality, high-resolution graphics!
CrystalMaker is optimized for
16-bit ("thousands") and 32-bit ("millions")
colour. If your computer/monitor combination can handle these
colour depths, you should experience photo-realistic, smooth graphics.
INSTALLING CRYSTALMAKER
- Launch the program by double-clicking
a crystal document, or dragging a document icon onto the CrystalMaker
icon - or simply double clicking the CrystalMaker icon.
Problems launching the program?
- If you "unstuff" the program into an open folder, you may get a blank document
icon, instead of the CrystalMaker program icon (a picture of
a crystal above an "M"). Simply close the folder, then
open it again - all should now work.
- If you double-click the application
program, and get an error message "The document could not
be opened because the application that created it could not be
found", then you need to rebuild your desktop. Restart your
Macintosh, holding down the COMMAND and OPTION keys. Click the
OK button when the rebuild desktop dialog appears, then try launching
the program again.
- If the program crashes after
launching, there may be a conflict with other programs running,
or with control panels/extensions loaded. Try restarting your
Macintosh with the SHIFT key held down (this turns the extensions
off), then launch CrystalMaker_DEMO again.
Problems loading the CD-ROM?
- Older, slow CD-ROM drives may
not always load the CD-ROM correctly. In most cases you should
be able to load the CD by ejecting it and trying again.
Getting Help
- Online help (such as the page
you're viewing here) is available from the Help menu (the "?" menu in System 7), or by pressing a dialog help button. You can
reset your choice of help viewer/browser by holding down the
option key as you select the "CrystalMaker Help" command
from the Help menu.
- Balloon Help is available for
toolbars
- Tool Tips are available for
toolbar buttons; if the mouse pointer hovers over a toolbar button,
a help balloon describing that button's function will appear.
To disable Tool Tips, select the Windows > Hide Tool Tips
command.
